Halton Region co-hosts job fair with Toronto Premium Outlets

Toronto Premium Outlets which will open its new retail complex in Halton Hills later this summer is hosting a job fair in partnership with Halton Region (Employment Halton), the Town of Halton Hills, and the Region of Peel on June 6, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Milton Sports Centre (605 Santa Maria Blvd.). Representatives from centre merchants and management will be interviewing for all positions including part-time and full-time retail positions.

Intersection of Trafalgar Road and Steeles Avenue closing for paving in Halton Hills

Starting Monday, May 27, 2013, Halton Region will begin final paving of the newly-widened intersection of Trafalgar Road (Regional Road 3) and Steeles Avenue (Regional Road 8) in the Town of Halton Hills. All work is expected to be finished by Tuesday June 4.

Partnership sees 116 defibrillators placed in Halton schools

Halton Region is proud to announce that 116 defibrillators have been placed in Halton’s schools and more than 1200 staff and students have been certified to use cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and defibrillators thanks to the partnership between Halton Region, the Heart and Stroke Foundation, the Government of Ontario, the Halton District School Board and the Halton Catholic District School Board.

The Halton Region Museum hosted the Halton District School Board who honoured this year’s Our Canada Award recipients (formerly Visions Canada) at an awards ceremony held on Tuesday, May 14. The awards are presented to Halton students from Kindergarten to Grade 12 whose Canadian-themed projects are judged to be the most innovative and relevant.

Halton Region Celebrates National Public Works Week

Halton Region is proud to recognize National Public Works Week, celebrated from May 19 to 25. Each year, this week acknowledges the contributions made by the tens of thousands of men and women in North America, who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services related to transportation, water, wastewater and waste management. The theme for 2013 is Because of Public Works… recognizing the many aspects of daily living made possible by public works and the quality of life these contributions bring to communities around the world.

Construction starting at Upper Middle Road and Dorval Drive in Oakville

Halton Region will begin road improvements this week at Upper Middle Road (Regional Road 38) and Dorval Drive (Regional Road 17) to enhance vehicle and pedestrian safety at the southeast corner of the intersection.

How to develop partnerships between the non-profit and private sector the focus of upcoming networking session

Corporate social responsibility and opportunities for partnerships between the non-profit and private sectors is the focus of the second session of the Let’s Talk…Let’s Connect networking series. The session will be held Thursday, June 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. at the Ron Joyce Centre, DeGroote School of Business, McMaster University in Burlington (4350 South Service Road). Registration and a light breakfast takes place from 8 a.m. to 8:30 a.m.

Watson Avenue closing for construction in Oakville

Starting Monday, May 14, 2013, Halton Region will begin a wastewater main replacement project on Watson Avenue and Galt Avenue in southeast Oakville that will result in several temporary road closures until the work is completed in July.

Annual Milton Dragon Boat Race to raise funds in support of Halton Region's Allendale long-term care home and adult day programs

On Saturday, May 25, 2013, the 11th annual Lively Dragon Boat Race will be held in Milton at Kelso Conservation Area (5234 Kelso Road) to raise funds for the residents of Halton Region’s Allendale long-term care home and adult day programs (Silver Creek Place in Georgetown and Milton Place and Friends Landing in Milton). Hosted by Lively Dragon, a dragon boat racing club that organizes boat races to raise funds for charities, the event will take place from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. and will feature a barbeque, family activities, and dragon boat races.

Scouts plant 200 trees at the Halton Waste Management Site

On Saturday, April 27, Halton Region, in partnership with Conservation Halton and local Halton Scouts, raised environmental awareness and enhanced the landscaping of the Halton Waste Management Site (HWMS) by participating in an annual tree planting event. Approximately 100 Halton Scouts planted 200 trees at the landfill site located at 5400 Regional Road 25 in Milton.
