This is a permanent full time position working 40 hours per week.

 

Purpose:

Reporting to the Manager of Treatment Plant Maintenance, this position is responsible for providing leadership by ensuring maintenance work is completed to the highest practicable level of quality and safety in the treatment plants throughout the Region.  Facilitates strategic planning with direct reports in support of department targets. Aligns financial processes with purchasing by law and optimizes spend to reduce the lifecycle costs of physical assets.

This position is responsible for managing team competencies and training plans in support of equipment reliability and strategy planning. Makes the maintenance department a great place to work by creating an environment that promotes mutual respect and team work through daily management systems and regular communication events.

 

Preferred Background:
The successful candidate will possess a degree or diploma in Engineering, Asset Management or a Maintenance Management related discipline with a minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in supervising a large cross functional maintenance group. Excellent collaboration, team building, organizational, leadership and critical thinking skills are required.  The incumbent must have knowledge of and experience adhering to MOECC regulations, legislation, guidelines and the Occupational Health and Safety Act.  Demonstrated experience developing strategic solutions and an ability to support a team towards achieving their goals is required. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, SAP, work order management systems and SCADA process control systems is essential.   Sound financial management, dispute resolution experience in a unionized environment and customer facilitation skills are essential.  The candidate must demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively and demonstrate professionalism, tact and political acuity when interacting with stakeholders.

 

Working Conditions:

The successful candidate will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Records Check, by the first day of employment. Travel will be required; incumbent must provide their own transportation. The incumbent will be required to provide a copy of their driver’s license by their first day of employment. Incumbent will be required to serve on standby and respond to after hour callouts and provide leadership in emergencies and in adverse conditions, as specified by Public Works Operations Practices.

Duties:

  • Ensure safety of all employees and contractors working for the treatment plant maintenance group by driving continuous improvement towards a true safety culture. This includes supporting all corporate safety programs; developing SOPs, identifying and eliminating hazards, and enforcing all safety rules.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulations, standards and programs (safety, environmental, quality, maintenance policies and procedures) within area of responsibility.
  • Lead staff development in: hiring practices, orientation, training, and evaluating & guiding performance.
  • Work cooperatively with other departments to meet strategic objectives, diagnose complex equipment problems, and optimise department budget.
  • Lead the development of preventative/predictive maintenance for all electrical, mechanical and instrumentation teams.
  • Manage and oversee inventory and direct purchase processes.
  • Assist in developing plans for capital and engineering improvements.
  • Initiate & lead process improvement and cost reduction projects.
  • Work closely with all stakeholders including vendors, regulatory agencies, corporate engineering and project managers, other public works staff and corporate departments to accomplish goals and objectives.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and in accordance with safety rules and regulations.
