This is a temporary full-time position working 35 hours per week up to 12 months from date of hire.

 

Preferred Background:
The successful candidate must possess a Bachelor of Science in Nursing which includes preparation in Public Health Nursing or Registered Nurse with a Certificate in Public Health Nursing from a recognized University.  The incumbent must currently hold a Certificate of Registration from the College of Nurses of Ontario as well as a Certificate in Breastfeeding Management.  Experience facilitating Canadian Prenatal Nutrition Programs is an asset. Must have knowledge of health promotion and experience in the areas of preconception and prenatal health, breastfeeding, injury prevention, mental health promotion, positive parenting, and healthy childhood growth and development, Knowledge of community supports and services, demonstrated ability to work in an interdisciplinary setting, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including strong group facilitation skills are essential. Computer software proficiency is also necessary. An equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered.

 

Working Conditions:

Successful candidates will be made an offer of employment on condition that the Regional Municipality of Halton receives a current (obtained within the past six (6) months), original and acceptable Criminal Record Check, including a Vulnerable Sector Screen. Extensive daily travel may be required between locations within Halton Region. Incumbent must supply own transportation and have a valid Ontario “G” class driver’s license.  Some weekend and/or evening work may be required.

 

Duties:

Using standards of promoting health, building individual/community capacity, building relationships, facilitating access and equity, and professional responsibility and accountability, the nursing duties will include the following:

·         Responsible for health promotion and health education to prenatal clients and/or families with young children in the Halton community.

·          Provides health programs and services including consultation, education and skills development, counseling, creating environments supportive of healthy choices, and facilitation of adult education groups. 

·          Delivers programs and services in community settings that can include community agencies, schools, EarlyON Child and Family Centres, and community-based locations within neighbourhoods.

·          Collaborates with other public health program staff, Children’s Services staff and the community to deliver health promotion programs directed towards preconception and prenatal health, breastfeeding support and promotion, injury prevention, mental health promotion, positive parenting, and healthy childhood growth and development.

·         Responsible for keeping accurate health records and statistical information.

·         Performs other duties, as assigned.
